About Symptone
Symptone is a startup non-profit dedicated to improving dermatological education and diagnosis by ensuring accurate representation of all skin tones in medical resources. We aim to address the systemic gap in medical education, where diverse patient representation is often neglected in critical fields like dermatology, OBGYN, and other specialties.
While dermatology is our entry point, our long-term goal is to expand beyond dermatology to ensure diverse skin tone representation in all medical specialties—including OBGYN, cardiology, emergency medicine, and others. This mission goes beyond dermatology education and seeks to influence medical curricula and healthcare training worldwide.
End Goal:
Within 5 years, Symptone will be the leading organization in improving dermatological education by ensuring accurate representation of all skin tones in diagnosis and treatment. By 10 years, Symptone will have expanded this model to include diverse representations across other medical specialties, becoming a key advocate for inclusive medical education worldwide.
Currently, Symptone operates with a Google Ad Grant and relies on volunteer-driven efforts as a resourceful startup with no additional funding.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Marketing Director to lead and execute Symptone’s marketing strategy—from digital campaigns and social media management to building our Ambassador Program and expanding our outreach. The Marketing Director will be integral in growing our brand presence, increasing program participation, and promoting our Skin Condition Database, Blog Program, and future initiatives.
As a startup, Symptone relies heavily on volunteer efforts and strategic outreach, making this a highly impactful role. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about health equity, inclusive education, and building a non-profit brand from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities1. Develop & Implement Marketing Strategy
- Lead the creation of a comprehensive marketing plan that aligns with Symptone’s mission and long-term goals.
- Drive digital marketing campaigns to increase visibility, engagement, and participation in Symptone’s initiatives, particularly focused on dermatology education and database submissions.
- Oversee branding and messaging across Symptone’s platforms to ensure consistency and impact.
2. Build & Launch the Ambassador Program
- Launch the Ambassador Program, targeting key audiences for outreach and engagement (students, healthcare professionals, community leaders, and advocates).
- Recruit and onboard ambassadors who will help spread the word, encourage database submissions, and engage with the community.
- Develop training materials and resources for ambassadors to ensure effective outreach (e.g., social media templates, outreach scripts, QR codes for submissions).
Ambassador Program Goal
The Ambassador Program’s primary goal is to drive awareness, increase database submissions, and expand volunteer engagement. Ambassadors will also be instrumental in spreading Symptone’s mission and connecting with key communities to advocate for inclusive medical education.
3. Oversee Symptone’s Digital & Social Media Presence
- Manage Symptone’s social media channels, ensuring consistent and engaging content.
- Grow audience engagement across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Twitter by leveraging ambassador networks and targeted campaigns.
- Optimize the Google Ad Grant to drive website traffic, promote Symptone’s initiatives, and increase database submissions.
4. Manage the Marketing Department’s Subdepartments
Symptone’s marketing department consists of four volunteer-based subdepartments:
- Advertisements: Develop, manage, and track paid ad campaigns using Google Ad Grants and other platforms to drive traffic.
- Analytics: Track and report on website traffic, social media performance, campaign effectiveness, and engagement metrics.
- Newsletter: Oversee the creation and distribution of email campaigns, keeping volunteers, donors, and supporters informed about Symptone’s programs and progress.
- Social Media: Manage and grow Symptone’s presence on social media platforms, crafting posts, engaging with followers, and fostering online community engagement. As the Marketing Director, you will work closely with volunteers in each of these subdepartments to ensure they have clear goals, support, and resources to execute their tasks effectively. You will help coordinate their efforts and monitor progress toward Symptone’s marketing goals.
5. Measure Marketing Effectiveness
- Set clear, measurable goals for marketing campaigns, ambassador efforts, and digital engagement.
- Analyze performance through analytics tools and adjust strategies as needed to improve outcomes.
- Regularly report on KPIs (website traffic, database submissions, social media engagement, ambassador participation).
Who Should Apply?
We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:
- Experience in marketing, digital content creation, and community engagement.
- Strong understanding of branding, social media management, and content strategy.
- Passion for health equity, inclusive education, and dermatology.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a startup environment and lead projects with limited resources.
- Experience working with volunteers or community engagement is a plus.
- Experience in nonprofit marketing or healthcare-related marketing is a bonus.
End Goal
Within 5 years, Symptone will be the leading organization in improving dermatological education by ensuring accurate representation of all skin tones in diagnosis and treatment. By 10 years, Symptone will have expanded this model to include diverse representations across other medical specialties, becoming a key advocate for inclusive medical education worldwide.
