Who You Are
At Outdoor Afro, we are looking for a strategic, results-driven, and data-informed Marketing Director to lead our brand, audience engagement, and donor-focused marketing initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity for a marketing leader who thrives in both creative storytelling and analytical strategy to expand Outdoor Afro’s impact across digital platforms and beyond.
The ideal candidate is passionate about Outdoor Afro’s mission, skilled in content and campaign development, and experienced in driving engagement and fundraising through digital and traditional marketing channels. They have a deep understanding of marketing analytics, audience growth strategies, and donor engagement techniques.
This position will play a crucial role in increasing brand awareness, growing audience engagement, driving individual donor participation, and supporting programmatic goals—including an April 2025 app launch.
What We’re Looking For
Reporting to the Chief Program and Innovation Officer, the Marketing Director is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive marketing strategies that enhance brand visibility, increase community engagement, and drive financial support.
This role will oversee all owned, earned, and paid media channels, digital marketing strategies, and content performance analytics, ensuring that every marketing initiative aligns with Outdoor Afro’s mission and strategic priorities.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Marketing Leadership & Brand Awareness
- Lead the development and execution of Outdoor Afro’s overall marketing strategy to increase brand awareness, audience engagement, and donor participation.
- Own and manage all digital marketing initiatives across website, social media, email marketing, and paid media.
- Ensure consistent brand voice and messaging across all platforms, amplifying Outdoor Afro’s mission and impact.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with program, development, and executive leadership teams to align marketing strategies with organizational goals.
Audience Growth, Engagement & Community Building
- Develop and execute strategies to grow Outdoor Afro’s social media followers and engagement, leveraging platform algorithms, trends, and analytics.
- Design and implement a marketing strategy to support the April app launch, driving downloads and sustained user engagement.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with brands and community leaders to increase visibility and engagement.
- Optimize email marketing and social media to cultivate and convert followers into donors and supporters.
Donor Engagement & Fundraising Support
- Collaborate with the development team to implement campaigns that convert followers into donors.
- Develop compelling storytelling and donor stewardship strategies to retain and engage supporters.
- Utilize marketing automation tools to segment audiences and deliver targeted, personalized fundraising content.
Performance Measurement & Data Analytics
- Track, measure, and analyze marketing performance using Google Analytics, social media insights, and marketing automation tools.
- Use data to optimize campaign effectiveness, improve audience engagement, and increase donor conversion rates.
- Develop regular performance reports to inform strategy and share key insights with leadership.
Content & Public Relations Strategy
- Oversee content production and editorial planning, ensuring a consistent, compelling, and high-quality brand presence.
- Develop messaging and content for the CEO and key leadership to support PR, media opportunities, and stakeholder engagement.
- Manage media relations and press requests, ensuring positive coverage and alignment with organizational priorities.
What Success Looks Like - First 90 Days
- Increase Instagram and Facebook engagement in prep for April 2025 app launch.
- Develop and implement a marketing plan for the app launch, ensuring max visibility and downloads.
- Execute a campaign to convert social media followers into donors, aiming to secure at least $30,000 in individual donations by year-end.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required (Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field preferred).
- 7+ years of experience in marketing leadership roles, preferably in mission-driven organizations.
- Proven success in designing and executing multi-channel marketing campaigns (social media, email, SEO, website content, paid media).
- Experience managing brand identity, storytelling, and audience engagement strategies.
Technical Skills & Tools
- Strong proficiency in Google Analytics, SEO, digital advertising, and performance tracking.
- Experience using marketing automation tools (e.g., HubSpot, Sprout Social, MailChimp, AdWords, WordPress).
- Deep understanding of social media algorithms and content engagement strategies across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
- Familiarity with Salesforce for donor and audience segmentation.
- Experience in A/B testing, user research, and conversion rate optimization.
