Job Description
Senior Fullstack Developer – Shape the Future of Financial Wellbeing
- £188 per day (freelance contract), plus shares in the company and the opportunity for a full-time, salaried leadership role when we launch.
- Remote (UK-based preferred)
- Flexible working – fit around existing commitments.
Are You a Senior Developer Who Wants to Build Something That Actually Helps People
Most finance apps just show you what you’ve spent. Pipin does something better – it helps people make smarter financial decisions, without the user needing to think about it.
It connects to bank accounts, analyses spending/saving patterns, and provides proactive, personalised insights to help people manage their money effortlessly. No budgeting spreadsheets. No guilt-tripping about coffee. Just clear, actionable guidance to improve financial health.
We’re well past the “nice idea” stage. Investors are interested (some already investing), but we need to build our MVP and get it market ready. That’s where you come in.
We’re looking for a Senior Python Developer to take ownership of the product build, work alongside our stand-in CTO and tech advisors, and lead the technical development of Pipin. If you want autonomy, influence, and the chance to help define how this product is built from the ground up, this is it.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading Pipin’s Tech Stack – You’ll build both the backend and frontend, taking the product from concept to reality.
- Building the Backend – Designing APIs, integrations, and data processing that power Pipin’s AI-driven insights.
- Developing the Frontend – Creating a seamless user experience, whether in React Native, a progressive web app, or another approach.
- Shaping the Product – This isn’t just a coding job. You’ll be involved in decisions about how the app functions, how it delivers value to users, and how we make it intuitive and engaging.
- Scaling for Growth – We need this to be robust, scalable, and secure. We’re aiming for significant user adoption, so the infrastructure needs to handle that.
- Working with Junior Devs – As we expand (even before, really), you’ll have support from junior developers. Part of your role will be mentoring and guiding them.
- Security & Compliance – Financial data security isn’t an afterthought. With help from our compliance officer, you’ll ensure everything meets Open Banking, GDPR, and industry security standards.
What Would Make You a Great Fit?
We’re not here to list a bunch of requirements. If you can do the job, you can do the job – it doesn’t matter if you have a degree or learned to code in your bedroom. That said, experience with the following would be ideal:
- Python (Django or Flask) – Our backend is built in Python, so experience here is key.
- PostgreSQL – You should be comfortable designing, optimising, and securing databases.
- Azure Cloud Services – Specifically Azure App Service, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Functions, and API Management.
- CI/CD Pipelines – Experience setting up Azure DevOps Pipelines or GitHub Actions to automate builds and deployments.
- OAuth & Authentication – Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT token management, and Azure AD B2C would be useful.
- Security & Compliance – Understanding of GDPR, Open Banking standards, data encryption, and keeping financial data locked down.
- RESTful API Development – Designing and integrating APIs, ideally with Open Banking APIs or other financial services.
- Containerisation & Scalability – Familiarity with Docker and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) for deploying scalable services.
- React Native (Bonus) – Not essential, but if you understand how the frontend consumes APIs, even better.
- Payments & Fintech (Bonus) – Experience with Open Banking APIs, Stripe, or payment processing would be useful.
- Experience building cross-platform apps in React Native and working with mobile app frameworks. (We’ll be building Pipin to work seamlessly across platforms. Whether that means a React Native app, a progressive web app, or something else – we’ll figure that out together.)
Don’t tick every box? Didn't expect you to. If you’re good at solving problems, picking things up quickly, and building great software, we want to hear from you.
You’ll Love This Role If You…
- Want to make key technical decisions, not just be handed tickets.
- Like solving difficult problems – security, scalability, AI integration, Open Banking… plenty to get stuck into.
- Care about building something meaningful – this isn’t just another fintech app, we want to make a real impact.
- Enjoy early-stage startups – yes, there’s risk, but there’s also a real opportunity to shape the company and grow with it.
Who is Pipin?
Pipin exists because managing money shouldn’t feel like a maths test or a source of constant stress.
Not only does it cost the UK economy over £25bn per year, 1 in 5 people have had suicidal thoughts due to financial stress. This isn't just low earners as you'd think – it's everyone.
Our founder, Rob, knows first-hand how financial stress can take a toll – not just on your bank balance, but on your mental health, relationships, and confidence. After experiencing this himself, he set out to build something that actually helps, without the shame, spreadsheets, or soulless banking jargon.
At our core, we believe in Trust, Humour, Empowerment, Genuineness, and Sustainability. We take money seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. That means we try to bring sharp insights with a side of wit, practical solutions without the patronising tone, and financial clarity without the overwhelm.
What’s in It for You?
- £188 per day (freelance contract) – We know that’s not "quit your job" money, but this has serious upside.
- Shares in Pipin – You won’t just be building it; you’ll own part of it. As an early hire, you’ll get shares in Pipin – so if we succeed, you succeed.
- Flexibility – Work around your current commitments. We care about results, not 9-to-5.
- A Future Leadership Role – As we secure investment, this role could evolve into Product Lead or even CTO.
- Be Part of Something Early – Join now, and you’ll help shape a startup that could redefine how people manage their money.
