Quality Engineer (PostgreSQL) – Remote

We are looking for a skilled and motivated full-time remote Quality Engineer to join our PostgreSQL Team. As a Quality Engineer, you will be an integral part of ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products. In this role, you will be part of our distributed engineering team,  maintaining and improving the quality of our software products as part of the release process and in an ongoing fashion. This includes tasks such as analyzing and reporting defects captured by our automated testing frameworks, as well as defining and implementing new test cases, and improving and scaling our testing capabilities and infrastructure.

What You Will Do:

• Contribute to the DevOps and release management lifecycle, which includes coordinating, testing, and managing PostgreSQL releases.

• Evaluate and improve Percona PostgreSQL products and new features based on test plans, discovering product issues & bugs.

• Monitor and analyze/log failures of automated regression, performance, packaging, and/or other automated test systems in PostgreSQL ecosystem within Percona.

• Perform monitoring and improving Percona’s automation testing systems & infrastructure.

• Research and recommend tools, behaviors, and strategies for improving test and release processes.

Your Experience:

• Solid debugging skills and experience (e.g., analyzing log files, spotting patterns) with products/tools in the PostgreSQL ecosystem.

• Good knowledge of test methods in agile software development environments.

• Familiar with established test tools as well as with methods for test automation in the PostgreSQL ecosystem/community.

• Experience with tools for tracking and documenting development processes (JIRA, Notion, git) is an advantage.

• Solid Linux sysadmin skills (e.g., adding/removing software, enabling/disabling services, general Unix/Linux CLI tools).

• Ability to set up a Postgresql server and related tools/applications/components for the reproduction of bugs or test scenarios.

• Experience in bash, shell, and SQL scripting.

What Will Make You Stand Out:

• Hands-on experience in the testing ecosystem of upstream PostgreSQL: pg_regress, built-in test suites, and tap testing using Perl for advanced setups.

• Coding skills, preferably Python, SQL, and Perl.

• Working with automation tools (Ansible, Jenkins, CI/CD).

• Active participation in open-source projects related to testing or the PostgreSQL ecosystem.

• Previous exposure and experience in database-related technologies, for example, in a DBA, support, or development role.

• Experience with compiling, building, and packaging software applications.

Where You Will Work:

This remote work-from-home position can be located anywhere worldwide. However, the team median is UTC +2, so we will favor +/—3 hours from there.
