A Better Opportunity
Better is looking for a Product Manager to be the go-to for pricing and eligibility, working closely with engineers, designers, and domain experts to build flexible, API-driven infrastructure for delivering accurate, real-time mortgage decisions. This role will be responsible for our Marketplace; building and maintaining what makes Better, better!
A capital markets expert is not required, but the right person for this role does need to love simplifying complex systems, collaborating with technical teams, and shipping high-impact product iterations in fast cycles.
Responsibilites
- Own the end-to-end roadmap for pricing, eligibility, and decisioning products, from discovery through delivery
- Translate evolving agency/investor requirements into clear product specs and logic models
- Collaborate with engineering to build configurable pricing engines, rulesets, and decision APIs
- Partner with internal stakeholders (e.g., underwriting, ops, compliance) to ensure rules are accurate, auditable, and up to date
- Lead structured product discovery: mapping user journeys, edge cases, and business logic
- Utilize data analytics to track performance, assess the impact of changes, and make informed decisions to continuously improve the sales and operations processes.
- Be involved in strategic decision making, particularly in the form of discovering and implementing new loan programs and products
- Be a proactive problem solver and learn how and why borrowers do or do not convert and find and implement solutions
- Become a subject matter expert in all things pricing and eligibility, learn our system and how our users interact with it, troubleshoot and solve issues, identify and improve upon it
Qualifications
- 3–6 years of product management experience, ideally at a startup or in a highly regulated or rule-heavy domain (fintech, insurtech, healthtech, etc.)
- Experience writing clear PRDs, user stories, and logic specs
- Worked on platform or infrastructure-level products — pricing engines, rules engines, decision APIs, or internal tools
- Familiar with mortgage or lending concepts (e.g., LTV, AUS, credit score thresholds), or industry experience is a plus
- Understand technical concepts and can work effectively with engineers (you don’t need to code, but you should know how systems connect)
- Comfortable with tools like Postman, Jira, Python, SQL, Go
- Managed multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Exceptional stakeholder management skill and ability to handle complex cross-functional projects
- Strong understanding of technology and the ability to develop and execute a technology strategy
- Thrive working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a high degree of ambiguity
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams
