Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer at Walnut, you will be part of a team that’s excited about building amazing products while taking pride in the code that powers it. We embrace functional programming principles across our stack, leveraging ReScript on the frontend and Elixir on the backend to build robust, maintainable systems.

Our current stack is composed of React, ReScript, Elixir, GraphQL, Docker, and AWS.

**remote position**

What you will do:

  • Own features end-to-end, from development through testing and deployment.

  • Design and develop full-stack solutions that power our core product features.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define, build, and release new features.

  • Participate in technical decision-making regarding architecture and technology choices.

  • Ensure code quality and system security through automation, unit testing, and structured code reviews.

  • Help maintain and improve our development practices and processes.

  • Work autonomously and manage priorities effectively in our asynchronous, remote-first environment.

Who you are:

  • You have 5+ years of professional experience as a full-stack software engineer with a focus on frontend web development.

  • You have excellent knowledge of web development tools (React and modern JavaScript frameworks).

  • You are proficient in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Elixir, ReScript NodeJS, Rust, Go, etc).

  • You are an independent, fast learner excited about learning new technologies.

  • You have experience working in teams and conducting structured code reviews.

  • You are product-oriented, combining thoughtfulness with pragmatism and a will to get stuff done.

  • You believe in clear and honest communication, with a shared understanding of both long-term vision and immediate next actions.

  • You thrive in distributed teams with a self-driven approach to collaboration and time management.
