Job Description

ABOUT US

At Speckle, we are open source at heart, driven by our mission to make the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry better. Our product is a collaborative data hub that enables architects, engineers, and designers to collaborate seamlessly, connecting and exchanging data across all stages of a project's digital delivery. Speckle is the driving force towards an open ecosystem and a better-built environment.

As a team of 26 employees fully distributed across the UK and Europe, we embrace the unique opportunities that come with working in a distributed team, valuing flexibility, inclusivity, and open-mindedness. But we also know how valuable it is to meet in person so we get together at company retreats multiple times a year to have fun and bond.

ABOUT THE ROLE AND THE TEAM

Our Product & Engineering team is split into two: one team is focused on our 20+ connectors, another – on the web platform. The web platform is where users go to collaborate in our browser-based 3D viewer, manage their projects, set up and run automations, and learn through our docs, community hub and marketing site. Your main focus will be the web platform.

The web team is currently made up of another designer, six engineers, a product lead (he's hiring for the role, so DM him on LinkedIn if you have questions about the role), and a tech lead. We're always collaborating, especially with the Growth and Community teams, but really with everyone at Speckle - it's how we get things done. The team is small and you will have a massive impact both internally and on the industry.

We are growing and seeking an experienced Product Designer (who codes) to be a key contributor in bringing our SaaS offering from its still early stage into a mature and easy to use platform. Speckle is already loved by a large community, but we still have a ton of work to do to make working with 3D data more approachable to anyone. Excellent design and UX are at the center of this.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Design a product that the community loves to use every day. Speckle is a work tool so it has to be intuitive, efficient, and joyful.
  • Use your frontend skills to take part in the implementation as well – with help from the rest of the frontend team. Our frontend is a Vue.js/Nuxt app with Tailwind.
  • Help maintain our Webflow-based marketing site by designing and 'implementing' new pages.
  • Run projects end to end. You have a part to play in the whole process from research, through to ideation, design, implementation, testing, and refinement.
  • Help come up with features and improvements that ship quickly and with high quality.
  • Take part in user research by joining calls with excited community members.
  • Contribute to our visual language and design system to ensure a consistent and beautiful user experience.

In a nutshell a product designer at Speckle is someone who think of themself as a designer, but coding is a big part of their process. We expect a person who can fully fill the role of a designer on a given project, but they also take part in the frontend implementation.

The role fits into the highly technical and product-focused culture at Speckle, where we believe the lines between engineers, designers, and PMs should be quite blurry. We love when a designer skips Figma, an engineer writes the project brief, and when a PM submits a pull request.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • You have several years of experience designing clear, intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces.
  • You have strong HTML and CSS skills and basic JS skills.
  • You are passionate, self-driven and care about the little big details.
  • You value input from anyone and are comfortable sharing your work early and often – critique and collaboration elevate quality.
  • You value working in a fast-paced iterative environment.
  • You have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Bonus points:

  • Experience with Webflow.
  • Experience with Vue.js and Tailwind.
  • Strong visual/brand skills.
  • Passion for the AEC industry.
  • Experience with 3D software.
  • You have built great things with a small team.

WHY US?

  • We are fully distributed across the UK and Europe, enjoying all the perks of working from home with our pets 😉
  • We offer 30 vacation days + Bank Holidays;
  • As well as an equity (stock options) plan to have you participate in our shared success;
  • We support you with an annual allowance of 2k GBP for you to learn something new or take care of yourself and your family;
  • Despite working remotely, we believe in value of in-person collaboration, so every year we bring all Specklers on a unique and exciting retreats somewhere warm, and offer in-person-grants to teams and individual Specklers to meet IRL.
  • We contribute to open source and interact with a diverse and vibrant community;
  • And we're backed by highly accomplished venture firms believing in us and our mission!

We celebrate our truly diverse and inclusive company culture and are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, or gender identity.

We know the confidence gap and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting spectacular candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply — we’d love to hear from you.
