OverviewGovCIO is currently hiring a Backend Developer (Ruby on Rails) to manage VA.gov sustainment and enhancement work on VRE PSES. This position is fully remote and available to candidates within the Continental United States (CONUS).
ResponsibilitiesManages backend development for legacy modernization, sustainment, and enhancement for VA.gov. Assists with development planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards. Prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions of program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.
Required Skills and Experience :
- Bachelor’s with 2-5 year experience (or commensurate experience)
- Experience with Ruby on Rails Development
- Experience working with Postgres, MS SQL Server, Oracle or similar databases
- Experience working with GitHub
- Analytical and investigation skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and supervision.
- Experience with Agile Methodology and Scrum Processes.
- Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle.
- Demonstrated experience in a remote work environment.
- Must be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US.
Preferred Skills and Experience :
- Experience with VA and/or other Federal Agencies.
- Understanding of the VA Veteran-Focused Integration Process (VIP) project management methodology.
- Knowledge and experience working in a Scrum/Agile environment
- Experience with Jira and Confluence
- Experience working within the VA.gov platform, alongside OCTO
Clearance Required: Ability to obtain and maintain a Suitability/Public Trust clearance.
